Search engine optimization is a process which is ongoing. Even if you have perfectly optimized your site, there will always be things you can do to improve it even more. It is also important to note that the guidelines for the ideal website are constantly changing. Search engines will continue to generate new algorithms to improve the results of their searches, and your website must be optimized to accomodate them. If you are targeting keywords which are highly competitive, your site must be optimized at a very high level. If you feel that your site is not as optimized as it should be, there are a number of things you can do to improve it.
It is first important to make sure you use high quality keywords in your anchor text. Search engines place an emphasis on the anchor text, and using them effectively on your website will make it more prominent. Another thing you will want to use is alt tags. When you add photos to your web pages, it is important to make sure the alt tags are included. The search engines cannot see images, and will rely on your alt tags to give them information about the photos. In addition to alt tags, you will also want to use the heading tags. The search engines will place a higher emphasis on words which are added to the heading tags.
Heading tags are also crucial in helping the search engine outline the pages on your site. The search engines are programmed to think that the heading tag is more important than the lower levels of the page. Heading tags should always be placed in the proper order on your page, and you will also want to add them to important parts of your document. Research has also shown that a number of search engines place an emphasis on words which are either italicized or bold. Because of this, it may be helpful to make important keywords bold or italicized. This only has to be done a few times, as you don't want to alter too many words in your documents. |
